GREYTOWN NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Groytown Private Braes Band was held in the Fire Brigade Hall lost evening. Present; J. Maguire (Chairman), M. R. Varnham (Bandmaster), W. Haigb, J. Hawke, J. Fuller, junr., T. Fisher, J. Maguire, junr,, and H, E. Wood (Acting Secretary). A, letter of apology for absence accompanied by some sdjd advice was read from the Secretary (Mr J. E, Nicol). The value of instruments belonging to the Band was discussed and the Bandmaster stated that there were nine instruments, which ho assesses at £SO. The Chairman commented upon the bad attendance at practices of late. The following resolutions were carried unanimously:—Proposed by J.Hawke and seconded by T. Fisher, that Mr M. E. Varnham's resignation as Bandmaster (which was read at the last meeting) be accepted with regret. —By J. Maguire, junr,, seconded by J. Hawke, that the Band reorganise. -By M.R, Yarnham, seconded by H. E. Wood, that J. Maguire, junr., b9

Wood, seconded by the Bandmaster, that a testimonial signed by all the members be given to M.B.Yarnham, ByM.R.Varnham, seconded by the Bandmaster, tbat J, Fuller, junr,, and W. Haigh be appointed trustees vice Messrs J. Fuller and M, R, Yarnham (resigned), The Chairman suggested to the Committee that a letter be senUo the Fire Brigade asking what concessions tbey wouldnjakp if the Band becamo a BrigaSeone, It was resolved that the Committee meet at M, K, Yarnbam's house on Tuesday evening next at 7 o'clock to draw up the rules, eto. I ha shown by the inventor, Mr M. E. Varnham, a very neat music stand for bands. It is exceedingly light and strong, can be folded up and carried by a child. It will not blow oyer and is capable of accommodating eighteen players. Its whole weight is only 251bs, Authorities state that it is the best they have overseen. Mr Yarnham is taking oat Letters Patent for it. Ho has already an order for ono for the Fapa\vai Native Band, The last of a series of fortnightly concerts in aid of St Mo'e Church
Building Fund is to be held next Monday evening. The programme will include the Maypole dance, Tableaux, and some of the best Wellington taient, A largo amount of troublo ig being taken to make the aifair a success, and the efforts of the promoters should ho rewarded by tho presence of a bumper houso,
Tho heavy rains experienced here lately have caused the rivers to flood, The flat, opposite the old Maori Pali, was entirely submerged.
