FOOTBALL.
Wairmpa Rugby Football Union,
A meeting of delegates to the Wairarapa Rugby Union waß held at the Marquis of Nominally Hotel, Carterton, kt (Wednesday) evening. Present: Messrs Boo'b(inthocbuir), Downard, Wilsono, Morris, Green, Maloolm (Sec,), C. Perry, Astalt, Beard, Hawke, Oliver, Raid and Eagle. . The Secretary read the correspondence that had taken place in view of tbo Wangnnui match which lakes place in Mastertoti on Thursday, August 10th. The Secretary's action in the matter was approved of by the moeting. The protest of the Masterton Football Club against the Greytown Football Club in the Cup m&toli,played at Greytown, on Saturday June 17th, on the Ground that Messrs Connolly and Udy had played in a Cap match for the Bush Union was brought up for discussion, Tho Mastmton delegates withdrew that part of the protest which stited these men had played in a Cup matoh, but maintained that they were members of tho JJusL Union, having played in a match for the Tiitaekura Football Club against Pahiattia, and the WairaiMpi Union's rule states that a playing member cannot belong to two Union's. After a deal of diccusaion it was proposed by Mr Green and seconded by Mr Wilsone that the protest be not entertained. It was proposed as an amendment by Air Perry thnt this meeting await further information from the Secretary of tho Talaekara Football Club, stating when Messrs Connolly and Udy received their olearnnce from that Club. After a deal of discussion the amendmmt was put and lost on a show of hands, five voting for and nine against. The original motion was then put and carried.
It was decided that Mr Maguire lie elected to the Match and ManasjoniontOommittceinplaceof Mr McKenzie, who had left the diatrici, and Mr Malcolm bo elecled temporarily to tho Match Committee to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Watson being away with the New Zealind Team, It wag decided that a Oomuiit'ee I'OMsisiing of Messrs D'Arcy, Perry, ffilsono, Astull and Malcolm be formed for the purpose of revising tho Rules and By-laws of the Wairarapa Rugby Union. It waa proposed by Mr Wilsone seconded by Mr Astall that the Wan-, ganui team be entertained with a Smoke Concert on the Thursday evening, the night of the match, and that the Reception Committee consist of the Secretary and the Mautertnn members on the Management CommittOß with power to «dd to their number.—Curried. It was decided that the Secretary lie instructed to re-arrange tho Junior Cup fixtures so that two matches, when convenient, be played on each Saturday instead of only one as at present, and also to notify tho Secretary of oach Club to that effect. If rep. matches or practices are to take place the Secretary of the Union to inform the various Secretaries seven clear days prior to tho match. The Secretary was instructed to make full inquiries for compiling and! arranging an annual, and lay the matter before the uext meeting of delegates, Mr Wilson's action in picking an A. and B. team for a rep. practice next (Saturday afternoon was approved of by the meeting.
It was decided that the final rep. practice take place on Saturday the oth August, at Carterton, when the representative team, subject to alterations, play the next eighteen. Now that itis evidentthat tbe combined Otago-Canterbury against Now Zealand match is not likely to come off, it is probables tbut an effort will be make tn send a fifteen of the New Zealand team to Timaru to play an eighteen of South .Canterbury, if it is found practicable to obtain the extra leave for the necessary men. lbo Secretary of tbe N.Z. Rugby Union in now making enquires into the matter.
