"Barracking."

(TO THE EDITOR WiD, TIMES).

Sib.—Will you kindly allow me a small spaco in your valuable columns to reply to a few remarks made by "T,H," in reference to Saturday's football match. In your issue of Monday, your correspondent, -who, of course, is a thick and tbin supporter of tbe Masterton Olub, says that if any member of that Club happened to show up conspicuously be was vigorously booted by tbe spectators present, but if a Star Club player distinguished himself he was cheered enthusiastically. Now, sir, that is absolutely false. I was present at the match, and will admit that a little hooting was indulged in by Bomo very small boys, but it was only when one of tbo Masterton men indulged in or "distinguished himself"by-a piece of rough play. I havolsjlyseen three of tho prinoipal matches inMasterton in which the Stars have been engaged, but I must say that tbe players of that Olub seem to be able to conduet themsclvos as gentlemanly footballers should do, but on the other hand there are two or three players in the Masterton Olnb who appear to think that to be a successful footballer you must go in for " flattcning-out" your opponents, And yet their supporters wonder why the spectators or " bamckers" hoot them, Not having been in your district long, and not being an active player, my remarks an made from an uninterested point of view. Thanking jou in anticipation o! - space.—l am, etc. • Spb^Qß.
