The so-called grease was really muriatic acid, Determined opposition is being shown to the proposal to'borrow £9OOO to make a Recreation Ground in the Botanio Gardens, by a oomroittee organised to prevent it being carried at the poll. Archbishop Redwood has received a pressing invitation from the Catholic Congress at Chicago, which he has decided to acoept, The clergy yesterday collected and gave him £lO5 towards the expenses, which sum will be increased. The Wellington Woollen Company has replaced 12s per share, written off in 1888, out of tbe profits; having a balance of £685, and a reserve of £O,OOO, Shares are now £4 paid up. Out of 8,725 unallotted shares 6,426 have been taken up lately.
