Mr W. Hay, nf Masterton, who lately patented an appliance for cleaning cocksfoot and other seeds, has lodged speoifi* cations for improvements in winnowing machines. These two machines should prove of great advantage to settlers in making their grass seed bettor fit for.the csport trade. Mr Hay has sold half his interest in the patents, and steps will shortly be taken to make up machines for the coming season, Two splendid specimens ot the coachbuilders' art have just been turned put from the factory of Messts T. Wagg and Co, nf Masterton.' One is a roomy and comfortable dog cart to the order of a local resident, and furnished in a neat and attractive style, Tho other vehicle is a gig, built to the order of a Wellington gentleman, it is very highly finished in every part and fitted with a patent balancing adjustment. The sig is punted in crimson lako, picked out in navy blue, with fine lines of gold, the upholstering being huttehair covered with haudsome leather. The Kev. L M. Isilt delivered his lecture on "Norniau McLeod" to a small but appreciative audience, in the Theatre Royal, Masterton, last evening. It was thought by a few that owing to the inclemonoy of the weather and' the paltering of tha rain on the roof of the building, that the lecture should bo poßt< pened, but on a show of hands betas; taken, a large majority deoided that the lecturer should proceed, This he did and kept his audience spell-bound for upwards of an hour and a half,narrating in graphic stylo,interspersed with humorous anecdotes, the various phases ot tfte life of Norman McLeod, whom he described as being a man before he was a parson. In the course of his leoture he asserted that people did not give Christianity a chance, inasmuch as they looked to the lower type of professors, or mostly hypocrites, instead of to the ideal christians A vote of thanks to Mr Isitt for his lecture and a similar complimont having been paid to the Chairman (Mr James McGregor) the proceedings terminated.

A mnetiriß of tho Royal Arch Ulmpter .of Druids was held in the Lodge Boom at Carterton last (Tuosdny) evening, There was, a very lnrge attondanno, including eleven District Officers, from Wellington, and ten officers, from the Stonohengo Lodgo, Masterton. The Lodge business und the ceremony if conferring the Royal Arch degree w,s not concluded till after eleven o'clock. Adjournment was then made to the White Hart Hotel, whoro a sumptuous spread was provided, After suppor, tlio company spent several pleasant hours in harinnny and refreshment. Needless to say Masterton was we'l repnsenttd in the musical department. In tin course of his lecture last night at the Dlasterton Theatre Rujml, tho Hov L 11. Isittspoke in veiy flittering terms of Misses Albu, who aro announced to appear in Masterton to-morrow evening.
