The Egmnt Farmers' Union, Limited,
Hawera, Jane 29, 1898. We held a most spirited sale in tho Glover Eoad yards, Hawera, on Wednesday, the 28th inst, Though our advertised entries of stock were large, they considerably exceeded what had been expected, and taxed our yarding accommodation to its utmost eitr it. The cattle, which were largely composed of fat cows and bullocks, met with a ready Bale ut the bands of the numerous buyers in attendance, indeed, we had not enough entered to Satisfy those present. A. keen competition was thus created, and prices ruled high throughout the sale, so that at the close the bulk of the lines had changed hands at the hammer or immediately afterwards. Sheep were practically unsaleable, and it was with difficulty that we quitted the few lines we did sell. We quote: Fat bullocks, £6 5b to £6 19b ; forward bullocks £4lßs 6d to £5 14a; 18 months to 2 year steers, '£3 6s to £4 4b ; weaners and yearlings, £1 6s to £2 Is 6d; fat cows, £4l6s to £6; cows in coll, £3los to £sl7s fid. Sheep: 4,6 and 8 tooth ewes in lamb, 7s 7d. We have also to report some large Gales of fat stock privately at prices ranging from £6 5s to £7 2s.
