Direct Mo Convention,

Wellington, Monday. The Union Company are making a reduction of ono fourth in the fares to all persons, from every part of the Colony, attending 'bo Direct Veto Convention in connection with the New Zealand Alliance, to bo held here on July fith and 6111, On the first day of the Conference, papers will be read by Mr J. W. Jago, ofDunedin, on the" Influence of the Liquor Traffic on the Moral and Material Interests of New Zealand," and by Mr A. R, Atkinson, of Wellington, on "Inefficiency of all Licensing Regulations." On the sccood day Mr H, Dr Bjll, Mayor of Wellington, will read a paper on tbo " Right of People to the Direot Veto, without Compensation," and the Hov. Mr Walker, organiser of the Alliance, a paper on" Prohibition and Public Revenue."
A publio meeting will be held at the Opera House on the evening of tbo 6th, when addresses will be delivered by Messrs Bell (Major of Wellington), Rev. L, M, leilt, and probably Sir Robert Stout and others. Sir Robert Stout has undertaken to introduco the Direct Veto Bill in the House of representatives on behalf of tbe New Zealand Alliance,
