SHOCKING ACCIDENT.

Danevirke, Wednesday.
A shocking affair happened bore last night, A man named Willis, night soil contractor, was going his rounds, when a kerosene lamp, strapped to his body, exploded. At the same time his horse bolted, Having caught the animal he tried to take the lamp off himself, but could not do so, and his clothes rapidly bocame 'a mass of fire. Everything was burned off him, except his leggings, aud he was terribly injured, lie was discovered about one o'clock lying on the road by a man named Johnston,-whose dog roused him up, Willis was quite naked oxoept his leggiugs, whioh were still burning, Johnston took him into his house and sent for a doctor, The poor fellow was sent to the Waipukurau hospital by the first train this morning.
