THEATRE ROYAL.

Mr Clifford's Benefit Concert Tho farewell benefit concert tendered to Mr C. Clifford by tho members of the Orchestra (which for some limo past he has so ably conducted) assisted by several well-known amateur vocalists and (lie members of Pern son's Private Band took place last evening, but-owing doubtless to the inclement weather—tho Theatre was not so well filled as was expeoted. An excellent progiammo was provided and every item was received with appreciation, Mr G, Gray, sen., acted as conductor, also taking part in the instrumental quartette, thoroughly sustaining the high reputation ho has gained in Wellington as a musician. Mr C, Clifford presided nt the piano, playing all the accompaniments faultlessly. The following programme was given:—Song—'The Longshore man,' Mr Robinson, Tromboue Solo-' The Death of Nelson,' Mr T, Giay, (this was a remarkably clever performance and elicit da vociferous encore) ; Song—' Over the Deep Blue Sea,' Mr S. Ealph; Selection—- ' llTrovatore," Mnsterton Orchestra; Duet—' Life's Dream is O'er,' Messrs Clifford and Robinson; Song--'My Sweeiheurt when a boy,' Master W. Jngo (encored); Violin Duet--1 Norma,' Me-srs Winchester and Ginders, After a short interval the second part of the entertainment was given, and if anything, was more tnthnsiaatically received than tho first half. Mr Wright's song 'Maid of Athens' fairlybroughtdown the house and the audience was not satisfied until he had again sung. The other items we :—Quartette —' The Village Chimes,' by members of Pearson's Band; Song—' Anchored,' Mr Astall; Comie Sketch—o. J. S. Palmer; Selection—' Lucin de Lnmniermoor,' Orchestra; Song-' Every Bullet has Its Billet,' Mr W. P. Croxton ; Song —'My Little Sweetheart, 1 Mr 0. Clifford; Selection—' Tho Champion,' Pearson's Band,
