PAHIATUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) , The weather of late in this district has been of a very rough character, heavy rains and high winds prevailing and the country roads as a natural . consequence are in a very bad condition. Though il has been favourable to thegrowth of both oldand nev pasturcH it retards all contract work. Whatisnow wanted, is a spell of cold nights and clear days. The potato crops this year so far are only medium, and not nearly equal to list season's yields, the quantity o f rain having rotted many in the ground, although I hear of two small cro[.s, dug from fresh ground, turning out fully 20 tons to the acre. The second newspaper for Pahiaija is now an established fact, the plant for the newjournal.which I understand ia to be oalied the "Herald," has arrived and is being set up, and the paper appears this week, It is being floated aaa limited liability company, with 500 shares oi £1 each, Football it again in full swing here, a id a match was.playedlast Saturday between fifteen of the Pahiatua Club against twenty-two of all-comers, the ulttb team winning by a goal and three tries lo nil, The Club play a match with the Eketahuna team at Eketahuna on Queen's birthday, There is still great agitation over the new post and telegraph site; rumour hath it that the Ministers have decided lo rrect it on Mackay's section, which adjoins the one purchased at the southern end of the township, Maokay's section recently came into possession of Mr 0, B, Morrison, solicitor,
