MASTERTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
Annual Soiree. The annual soiree in connection with the Masterton Presbyterian SunJay School held last (Wednesday) evening in the church, tho Rev Robert Wood presiding. Tho proceeding opened by the choir singing "God is calling yet," and the chairman after making a few remarks called upon the Secretary and Treasurer, MrE. C. Jack, to read the report and balance sheet of tho past year. Tho balance sheet whioh' showed the school lo bo in a healthy condition, was as follows: -Receipts, £2O 15s sd; expenditure, XlGl6s Id; cash in hand, £8 19s 4d; general fund receipts, £2718s 7|d; owendiv ture £2l Is lOd; credit bjgmt £3 13s 9Jd; Mission Fund receipts; £3 15s §d; expenditure £6 2s ,10d; oredit'balance, £2 12s lOd, ; The report read showed that the last year's record of the school Cotn> pared favourably with any preceding one, and that the total'number on'the roll, including branch schools at Taratiihi,' Dreyerton, and Woodlands, is 250. Six ladies and seven gentlemen act aB teachers in Maßterton, and three ladies and four gentlemen at the branch schools'. At the Taratabi school Mr Wm. Richer has relieved Mr D. McGregor of the office of suprrihtendent (which he has held for upwards of twenty years) to enable Mr McGregor to do work nearer home. During the yoar the school bus contributed the sum of £l2 2s lOd towards deseivingohjects, The anniversary zioneof laat year wero 'erjSi'yable r nd proved a financial success. Mr Jack moved the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Mr D. McGregor and carried, M r Feist reada report of the amount collected for the Home and Foreign Mission Fund showing receipts amounting to £4l9s 7d. A hearty vote of thanks was passed lo the ladies for having been so suocisaful in their efforts in this direc> tion. The following programme was then rendered Quartette, Messrs Holdaway and Dougall and Misses Sage add Gran; solo, Mr D. McGregor; solo, Mr Holdaway; piano duet, Misses Feist and Lowes; recitation, Mr Baillie (encored); solo, Min Cran; solo, Mr W, Johnston; Quartette, Messrs Dougall and holdaway and Misses McGregor and Cran, During the evening addresses were delivered by tho Revs, Wood, Dukes and Murray, nnd Mr J. McGregor, and refreshments were handed round, A vote of thanks was passed lo Mr McGregor (superintendent), for hia services during the past; to tho ladies and gentlemen who assisted to make the uflair a success; and to Mieß Feist, who presided at tho organ during the gathering.
