Special Meeting.
A Special of the Master, ton School Committee to receive the annual report and balance sheet, previous to the annual meeting of house* holders, was held in the Main School at 7.45 last evening, Present—Mosara E. Feist (Chairman) W/G. Beard, 0. E, Daniell, W.M, Easthono and W. . MINUTES. The minutes of the last Costing were read and con6rmed. REPORT. The annual report was read by the Secretary (Mr W. Sellar) as follows: Your Commits have to report a successful year in the management of the schools, tfao attendance has been well kept up and the average good. The number ol children on tbe roll at tbe main school is 600, and at Victoria street 106, or a total of 706. Youc Committee have been compelled during tho year to continue taking steps under tbe compulsory clause of the Education Act, to make parenjgfcnd their children to sohool. past year the commodious Infant School, in Victoria Street, has been opened, and is found h great con» veniouce. Your Committee have again to thank the Town Lands Trustees for aid during the year, which has enabled your Committee to meet tbe requirements of the schools which the oapitation grant is unable to assist. Your Committee during tho past your have succeeded in reducing their expenditure by about £B7, but they feel that further reduction cannot be made, except in the item of repairs, without impairing (he efficiency of tbe ecbool. Your Committee are uuanimous in the opinion that tbe repair* of the school should be strictly Education Board, out of£!Sgf l &ida, The bounce sheet attached shows receipts from all sources £14014s 2d; expenditure £137 12s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £8 Is od. The March capitation of £2O is now due, thus giving the incoming Committee a fair start for tho year. The Headmaster of the Main School (Mr W. U. Jackson) and Miss Keeliug of the Victoria Street School, together with their respective staffs, still continue to maintain tho efficiency of their es« tablishments. and deserve thanks for tho excellent results of the recent ex« animations. During the year the attendances of the members of tho Committeo have been :-Z, M, Hoar, 10; W. Piaguell, 10; C, E. Daniell, 9; W. M. Easthope 9; E. Feist, 8 ; R. U, Galloway, 8; J. Williams, 7. and W. G. Beard 9.
