MASTERTON CEMETERY TRUSTEES.

Tho Masterton Cemetery Trustees met at tho Institute yesterday afternoon. Present-Messrs Feist (Chairman), Hare, Perry and Payton, The minutes of tbe previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the Treasurer reported a credit balance of £BO. A letter was received from Mr R. M. Galloway reaicning bis position as a Trunti'6, and stating that the Wesleyans of the town desired Mr Daniell to become his successor. On the motion of Mr Payton, Mr Galloway's resignation was accepted and a vote of thanks passed to him for his past service. I. On the motion of MrHare,secondod by Mr Perry it was decided to reoomI mend the Government to appoint Mr I Daniell to tho vacant seat, The Benevolent Society nroto asking for the remission of Cemetery fees in certnin cases connected with that institution. The request was granted. The report on the out going Works Committee was considered and dealt with, A deputation, Consisting of Mr Woodroofo, waited on the meeting to urge that the cemetery fees charged by the Trust were "derogatory and unjust" and should be reduced to the Greytown level,™,, by one half, Mr R, Hare moved that the ordinary fee of 30s be reduced to 21s and the extra space fee of 103 be reduced to 7s. He commended the moderation of the Greytown charges and thought they ought to make a reduc-l tion, They were in a good financial] position.

Mr Pay ton pointed out that though the Greytown foes were light, tho Cemetory there was muoh less presentable than the Masterton ground. He preferred having money to spend in beautifying the reserve, and as in every case of poverty they remitted the fee there was no real hardship in their rates. He twitted Mr Hare with bringing Mr Woodroofe to the meeting to lecture them and he claimed that notice of motion should be given of any resolution to alter the scale of fees. On the suggestion of the Chairman, Mr Hare agreed to give a notice of motion, and the subject dropped. An account from the Benevolent Society of £l l2s Bd, for labour performed in the Cemetery by indigent persons, waß passed for payment; the Custodian certifying tbat the Trust had received honest value in work for the expenditure. Mr Payton suggested that a flower garden might be laid off with advantage to beautify the cemetery grounds. Mr Perry would rather see their money spent in assisting to form a roadirom Dixon-strect to the Cemetery through the Park, If" Payton said it would be impossible to spend their money in the Park for this purpose. After Gomp dispussion it was agreed that (he meetilag'siij'fliiW • adjourn till two p.m. on the following (Tfo'urad.aV) afternoon, when it should meet at the Cemetery to consider Mr Payton'B proposal of a flower garden,
