The Daily Chronicle correspondent wires that the town has the appearance of being bcsoiged, Shares in the English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Banks are quoted at i 6 10s, In the courso of an interview today, Mr U. J. Hegan, Chairman of the Bank, said there was nothing in the Bank's postion to cause alarm except tho recent fall in shares, which was not justified. The Bank's bullion in the oolonies was sufficient to meet all demands, and it was not true that tho Bank had applied to tho Bank of England for assistance.
