Wfi have heard a political and personal opponent of Mr W. H. Beetham publicly describe him as the " eoul of honour." Another description of him appears in tho columns of our local contemporary, in the following terms: Mr Beetham may, wo trust, livo long enough to sec the error of his ways, He is at present acting under the convenient cloak of pro bono publico, but sooner or later tho veil ot deceit and personal consideration will be torn aside, mid the public will seo the motives, shameful and insincere as they are, wbioh have actuated this "land-grabber" in undertaking a work which cannot be justified cither on the plea of law or equity. If one of (lie honestest men in the community is deceitful and insincere, what is to bo said of the other men who do not bonr as high a reputation, Langtisgo would bo too poor to picturo their iniquity! If those who take it upon themselves to criticize Mr Beethain's character and conduct, only possessed a tithe ot his sterling worth and' honesty, they wonldnot publish'such rubbish as that which Wi) have quoted.
