MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Gas Committee Meeting.

A meeting of the Gas Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night. Present: Crs Feist (chairman), Yates, Dixon and Perry, The report of the Gas Manager was rend, showing the output for twenty seven days in March to be 214,542 feet, as against 192,319 feet for the corresponding period of last year, 'showing an increase of 22,232 feet. The contractor for the coal shed had Btarted tho work, which would be completed* shortly, The copper cap on the chimney staok had beon blown down during the recont storm, and as it was considered to bo a portion of the lightning conduotor, it was advisable to replace it,

The Clerk was instructed to write to Dr Lemon re necessity for replacing the cap, and tho Manager was directed to find out the cost of doing the work if Dr Lemon reports it necessary,

Tho Treasurer reported that LB2 had been expended out of tho General Eevenue account for a new tank, etc., and without this expenditure the profits on tho gas for tile year's working would amount to £BOO. The present annual charge for interest wasLs7o. If tho remaining LSOO worth of debentures were floated, the annual charge would be LGOO. Tho April interest on coupons would be met with tho special rato now lying to the credit of the interest account, The interest for October, 1803, and April, 1894, should be met by the profits on the year's work, and the collection of the interest rate unpaid for last year. The following recommendation was made That the remaining £SOO of debentures be sold and a dwelling-house built for the manager oil the works site, the balance to be applied to refunding the Gas Account for expenditure on tho new tank and the new coal shed," Also" That no special rate be collected for the coming year." The Mayor and Cr Perry were appointed visiting members for the ensuing month,
