BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Benevolent Sooiety was held this morning. Present -Messrs Galloway (Chairman), Beetham, E. Feist, Dagg. Tho minutes of tho last meeting wore read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows: From Star offioc, requesting that their reporter bo allowed to be present at tlio meoting,—Granted, Prom W. Williams, Tenui, application for assistance. Williams bas since obtained employment. From B, Cannon, application for assistance. Referred to police at Eketahuna for report. Tho Secretary brought up tho case of the man Tato and after the matter had been discussed at considerable length the Trustees resolved on the motion.of Mr Dagg seconded by Mr Beetham tbat ( the action of tbo Chairman and Secretary ho endorsed and that tho same relief ba continued. Also that the Secretary endeavour to find out what district in Hawke'a Bay the costs should bo charged to. A latter was received from the Wanganui Charitable Aid Board re the Williams case. Tlio case of granting extra allowance to Mrs Jackson and the assistance given to Sohonborg to return to Wellington wa? approved of. Win'. Reynolds, eighty three years af age, waited on tha Trustees and asked whether they would contribute towards his support, In reply to questions it was found that the applicant had not long come from Wellington, where be bad resided for some years. The Trustees were not empowered to deal with the case, and proposed to send him hack to Wellington, Mr Feist was in favour of dealing with tho case here, and the Secretary was instructed to write to the Society in Wellington and enquire if they will agree to have his caso dealt ivitli and contribute llw amount expended, The ordinary cases were read and dealt with as in previous month, The Police report was read. The Secretary stated that the police bad not reported on tho regular cases every month, us requested. Proposed by Mr Dagg,seconded by Mr Beetham, that the Secretary apply for thn Government subsidy on all voluntary contributions, Carried, The Trustees decided to meet in future at the Council Chambers, Tho accounts for tbe month were passed for payment,
