A STRANGE STORY.

Mysterious Death. [By Tolegraph,—Press Association.] NAPiEtt, Tuesday. A strange talo of death on the plains comes from Moawhanga, inland from Patea. Two men from Hawora, James Crocker and Charles Broadbent, rode from their home to Wanganui, thence to Kerioi, intending to go to Konui, Before reaching Eaugipo desert, a dispute arose aa to the right track, Broadbent asked Crockor to ride on to tho edge of the bush while he went up the side of a hill to discover tbo right courßo, Crocker did 60, and never saw Broadbent again. He waited two hours and thon went back to where they had separated. A gale of wind was blowing at the time, He stayed out all nightand until eleven o'clock the noxt day. This was on February 14th, ho then proceeded to Tokanui, and hearing nothing of Broadbent, went on to Taupo and Cambridge. He then returned to Takanui,where he learned that a road gang had found a horso and saddle, He then went to Moawhanga and informed the police, who organised a search party, and after a long search the body was found in the Wangaebu rivor, 74 miles from Kerioi, Deceased was 40 years old, and leaves a widow and five children residing at Hawera.
