FEATHERSTON ROAD BOARD

Ordinal n Meeting. Tho usual monthly meeting of the Featherston Road Board was hold on Saturday, there being prcsout Messrs Matthows (Chairman), Martin, Bidwill, Hume, Nix, Harris, Mifaod, and Donald. Tho Treasurer reported an overdraft of £714 2a 4d. The amount of rates collected amounted to £lOl 7s 9d. Accounts amounting to £lB5 18s 4(1 were passed for payment, An account was received from Mr McLaren for £ls for work done on the road through his property. f lho overseer stated that no moro than £lO had been expended, ntid most of (hat not Recording to his instructions. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McLeod, that tho Board cannot see its way clear to pay the account. An account was received from Mr Douglas for jB for work done on ilio Martinnorwgli-Pahaoa road to Mount Adams,-Some discussion took place as to the advisability of paying tho account, as that sub-divis-ion was in debt. It was finally rosolved.onthe motion of Mr McLeod, to piy £l los when the ward in in funds.

A letter was received from the Taratahi Road Board asking for £65 lis 2d as tho Featherston Board's share of the repairs to the Waiohino bridge. This created considerable discussion, as tho Board considered they should have been consulted in tho mattor of the repairs, whereas this was tho first they had heard about it, Tho Chairman presumed JbcTaratahi Board had beenuuthorWairarapa South Comity /council. As tho letter was not con sidercd a sufficient statomont of accounts to justify tho payment.it was resolved to draw the cheque and leavo it in the hands of tho treasurer to be paid on receipt of a satisfactory account. Correspondence inwards was read from Mr King, stating that he would shortly examine the Waihenga bridge and report. From Mr W, Burt, Btating tho prico of totara to be 18s per 100 ft. From MrTully, giving permission to Mr G. Appleton to enlarge his whare on the Puhaoa Road, From C. P, Powles, re College land at Papawai. From W. Beard, ro road through section 71, Moron. From J. H. Baker, ro road to Mr Buick's, From Mr Buick, offering a road through his property to that of Mr Kelly, compensation to bo £2O, gates to bo erected on the boundaries or both sides fenced and tho agreement to be signed by tho Chairman of (he Board and by the Commissioner of Crown Lands,- This matter was left in the hands of the Chairman, From Mr Hodge, re erection of a fence at the back of the gravel pit on bis boundary.—This matttr w,is left in the hawk of Mr Nix. From Mr Wratten re road to his property at Ruakokopatuna, This matter was left in the hands of Mr Harris,

From F. A. Thompson re surveyhg Gladstonc-Martinborough road and Messrs Smith and McLoay's road. It was resolved that Mr Thompson be instructed to lay tho lines ns he thinks best irrespective of existing roads, From F. Cole complaining of the bad state of the ford of the Tanherenikau river at lYoodsido, and the bad state of the roads in that locality. From Mr Coleman Phillips re erection of culvert to complete the drainage of his property and that of the neighbouring settlers. It was decided to leave this matter to the Overseer.

From Mr Anderson, asking compensation at £lO per aero should Messrs Harris and Smith's road be taken over as at present surveyed,Mr Anderson attended in person and asked that the fords and some gorse in bis locality be attended to. This was left in the bands of Mr Nix, Tenders for tho metalling of 70 chains more or less on the GreytownMartinborough road were opened. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Nix, that Mr J. McGinnis' tender— LI 3a per chain—be accepted, For the clearing of the drain on Murphy's line, Mr Roband's tender of \lB od per chain was accepted, The Board at this point adjourned fqr lunch. As this will, after some heavy flood, having to erect a bridge at" that part of the County Road. It was decided that tbo Overseer examine the road near tho Waiohine bridge and report upon its security. Some discussion took place re the alterations of tbo Ruakokopatuna road at Stoney Flat.- It was resolved that Mr Harris be written to asking his consont to the proposed deviation, and in the event of Mr Harris not consenting the thirds will be expended on the line already surveyed. It was resolved that the Overseer examine tho metalling done by the late Mr flume and estimate its cost. That tenders be called (or cleaning a drain at Kahautara. Ho, 6. 40 chainß of metalling at JBunieido. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Bidwill, that the next meeting be postponed a week. The Chairman read tho bylaws of the Geraldine County Council, Mr Donald gave notico of motion that the Waibeoga bridge be planked

longitudinally with four inch totara phnks. It was resolved, on tho motion of Mr Bidwill, that ono half of the Waihcnua bridge bo sheathed sim> larly to tho Lowor Tauhereuikau hridgo. This business terminated the meeting.
