BANQUET AT EKETAHUNA.

A farowefrftanrjuct wob given at tin: Olub Hotel on Tuesday night, lo Air Selby, who shortly leaves for Auckland. Host Pelling had spared no expense to make tho banquet a success ; the tables fairly groaned under the good things provided for the guests, the tables being laid out with oxceeding taste, The chair was occupied by Mr von Kedin, who, in proposing the toast of tho evening-their guest—remarked that during the years Mr Selby had been in the district, be hud made many friend:-, and they wero sorry to lose him. On Mr Selby's arrival in Eketahuua t'.erc was nothing in the shape of sports, and he had organised ..ii Cricket Club, and bad spared neither </9& llor mom l v '»"inking the Eketahuua Cricket Club second to none in the Forty Mile Bush. In all oilier sports and pastimes he had also taken a leading part, and ho was sure that tho organisation of sports was the primary cause of the progress of the town, as visitors to the sports in many cases, seeing what the district was like, bad returned to settle in it. Ho tliereforo proposed the health of their guest, and he trusted that wherever be went he would niako as many friends as be bad there. A silver cruet stand was then presented by the Chairman, from tho residents of Ekotahuna, and cheers wero given for Mr Selby. Mr Selby, in a few suitable words, thauked those present for the hoarty manner in which they had met together to bid him God speed. Several other toasts were proposed during the evening, and songs and recitations were given by several gentlemen, the gathering dispersing after singing ''■ Auld Lung Sync,"
