DEATH OF A WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT.
We very much regret to have to record tlio decease of Mr Benjamin Honnslow, partner in tho firm ol Honnslow and Hoar, of this town, Mr Honnslow only took to Lis bed on the .Monday before l,e died, when he was found to bo suffi-rin? from inflammation of tlio lungs, On Saturday morning he appeared slightly improved, but still at times light-headed, During one of these attacks of delirium, towards four o'olock in the afternoon, Mr Hounslow suddenly got out of his bed and in spite of the efforts of those who ivero attending hiin to prevent bis leaving his room, he jumped through the window and ran a few yards, falling exhausted at bis garden gate. Holp was sent for and the sufferer was taken hack to his room, but he never rallied from the shock, passing quietly away a tew minutes later, Mr Hounslow liaa resided for many years in Masterton, and was one of the most stoightfonvard and highly respected business mon in the town, At ono time he was a prominent member of tlio Masterton Rifle Volunteers and went to the front at the time of the Parihaka trouble with the Natives, Ho was also an enthusiastic fireman, and held the rank of Captain in the local Volunteer Brigade. Out of respect for the de< cnased all the flags in iho town were yesterday flying at half mast. His funeral will take place at four o'clock this afternoon, and will be attended by both the Masterton Fire Brigades and the amalgamated Masterton Bands. Mr Hounslow leaves a wife and three children ank very many relatives and friends to mourn their loss, with whom the deepest sympathy is felt and expressed,
