CRICKET.

[by umpire,] A very interesting cricket match was played on the Park Oval yesterday between the W.F.C.A.and flomewood (East Coast) clubs, The visitors had not been heard of a great deal before, and the Farmers were generally recoguised as the favorites for the game. A great surprise was in store, however, as the Homewood bovs proved themselves worthy exponents of the game, and won an excellent one innings match by 29 runs and three wickets to spire. The Homewood team went to the wickots first, and when they had reached (he total of 104 runs for seven wickets, tho captain declared the inniogß dosed, and placed his men in tho field, The Farmers then went in, and were not disposed of before 75 was reached, 29 behind the opposing team's total. For the winners, the batting of Dash, who made no leas that 59 runs, was greatly admired, and was admitted to be one of the finest exhibitions with the willow seen on the Oval for a considerable time. The player lias only been a few weeks in the- Colony, and recently left College in England. He ia a sterling batsman, and mado some clever and pretty hits. His wicket fell to a rather easy ball from A. Caselbejg, and he received quite an ovation from the spectators. J. Tatham is also a vory nice bat, and with practice should become a valuable acquisition in the cricket field.

In the bowling line the visitors also bad one or two " warriors," Turner especially being very disastrous in this department, He took seven wickets out of ten, and it was a remarkable fact that nearly every one was taken by tbe first ball of an over. He played with a great amount of head work, and scarcely two balls were pitched alike. Dash is a good all-round bowler, but was far more playable than Turner. He did not get on tbe wicket for some time, but at the latter portion of tbe game was "deod on'" The fielding of tho Homewood team was exceedingly loose, consequent, no doubt, upon the small amount of practico they have had, and this wan responsible for noarly half tbe runs of the Farmers.

For the losers, J. Caselberg stood out conspicuous with a well-played 13, and with the exception of "extras' was tbe only one to enter doubk figures, Boott and Richardswerenol up to their usual orcditable lorni, arte had to reluctantly retire with one anc three respectively. Kershaw, wit! eight runs, played carefully and con' sideracely, and is greatly improving in his style.

Robinson and Redmond, the untried men of tbo W. F. C. A. proved worthy players, and mndo seven runs each, the former being tbo " not out" mon. Thoy will probably both lio heard of in future matches. The Tradesmen and Excelsior Clubs practiced on the Oval yesterday, but neither seemed to display any extraordinary amount ol interest in their games. The Hdmewood eleven play a scratch Masterton team on the Oval this afternoon, and will probably visit Carterton to-morrow. The return match between the W.F.O.A. toam and the Carterton Club will be played on Thursday noxt at Carterton.

The following team has been choson to represent Pahiatua County v Greytown North at Greytown on Saturday next:—Bottoroley, Chambers, Darrocli, Gault, G, Griffith, J. Griffith, U. F. Howat, Salbv, Stainton, H. 8, AVileon, 0. J. Williams. Mr W. A. Warren will act as nmpiro and Mr Cowles scorer,
