WILFUL MURDER.

Inyercakgill, January 16.
At tbo inquest on the body of Lillian Byrne, drowned last week by her mother jumping with her from the Invercaigill jetty, tbo jury returned a verdict of ( wilful murder against Annlo Byrne. Sergeant McDonnell deposed he was convinced that the
woman was not in lier right mind whon bionght to the Btation after boiug rosoued, Ho had seen her in the Batnc state bi-forc as the roBult of brandy drinking. Sho bud no 801S0 of tbegravity of the crimo she had committed. Byrne, in reply to tlio Coroner, said site did not know what sho was doing wlion she throw herself iuto the river. It wan deposed that sho tried to agaiu throw herself into tho water, and resisted being taken off tho ietty.
