Messrs Lowes and lorns held a sale of horses at Mr Buick's farm yesterday, i'lie attendance was fairly large, but of buyers only limited. The bidding was slack generally. Light horses, unbroken, were not in demand, The sale generally was not what might have boen expected, considering the reputation of the breeder. The Egmont Fanners' Union, Limited, Hawera, January sth, 1898, We had a small sale at Stratford on Friday, tho 30th ult„ the holidays still tending to keep things rather quiet, though what cattlo were yarded sold well, most lines changing hands before leaving tho yards, We quote 2 to 2i year steers, £3 11ato £4 5s fid; 12 to 18 months steers, £2l7s to £3 ss; weaners, £1 lCs to £1 17 6d; empty cows, £8 7s(id to £4 8s; springers, £4 15s to £6los. Our monthly horse fair was he'd on Saturday, the 31st ult,, and we experienced a drugging sale, for there was practically no demand for horses of.any kind, though we had a fair number entered, and it resulted in a good many returning home unsold We quote harness horses, £5 2s fid to £8 ss; hacks arid other kinds, from 7s 6d upwards. Our opening stock salo of this year, which waß to have been held at Manaia on Wednesday, the 4th inst,, did not como off, for, owing to the Bevero storm -which is the worst we have experienced- absolutely no stock came forward. . Wo regret to aay that the hulk of the white crops in this district, which a few days ago looked so promising are now just the very reverse.
