THE NEW COUNCIL CHAMBERS AT GREYTOWN.
The Formal Opening,
At the invitation of His Woi'Bbip the Mayor of Greytown (Mr R, A. Wakelin) a considerable party consisting of councillors, ex-councillors, the Mayor-eloct, the Borough Solicitor and representatives of the press, met at the new Borough Chambers at Greytowu lust Monday evening to take part in a little gathering to celebrate tho opening of the building. At about nine o'clock and immediately after the Usual Counoil meeting, which'was held for the first time in tho new room, the assembled party wore shown through the new building (which has already been described in these columns). On entering the last room, those presont were pleasantly Burprißed to see spread before them a splendid supper. They were thon asked to take their seats, and Bis Worship said that he could not allow tho Chambers to bo opened without somo Blight notice being taken of the event. He had thereforo asked tho Councillors and those connected with the Counoil to come and celebrate the occasion in a sociable manner. He had received, he might suy, nnapology from Mr W, C. Buchanan, M.H.R., for his abseucc, which was unavoidable. Ho would now propose the toast of the Queen and Royal Family, Other toasts of a patriotic and congratulatory character were proposed during the evening and being interspersed with vocal endorsements were productive of muoh good feeling and hearty enjoyment, After spending a most pleasant time, and having recognised thoroughly the generous thoughtfulness of Mr Wakelin, the company dispersed shortly before mid-night, to the harmonious Btrainß of 'Auld Lang Syne,'
