Public Works, The Ah Ohing Enquiry. (By Telegraph-Press Association), Wellington, Friday, The Governor has intimated that he will attHid the Caledonian gathering here on January 2nd, The Government will shortly call for tenders for the extension of the Rotorua railway line, from the present contract to the terminus at Rotorua.
Mr Holmes, Resident Engineer of the Huntervillo railway works, has been instructed to fit out a survey party for exploration purposes, in connection with the North Island Main Trunk line. This is being done in accordance with the report of a Parliamentary Committee. The country between Mokau and Mokanui on the Central route will be first explored, ' The Cabinet has authorised the immediate application of £3OOO for additional formation work on KamoHikurangi railway (Whangarei), and £3OOO on bushfeliing and formation at the Eketakuna end of tho Eketa-huna-Woodville railway. Communication over the Rimutaka is not likely to be resumed before Monday. Mr Richmond Beetham, R.M., of Christchiirch, has been appointed a Commissioner to enquire into the circumstances attending the death of I Ah Ohing in tho Wellington Asylum. The Defence-Minister has arranged to supply volunteers with Snider ammunition at 8s 4d per 100 rounds, and Murtini-Henri at a reduction of per 100 rounds on present cost.
