QUEER ANTICS ON THE RAILWAY.
Tho railway between Halcombe and Feilding was tho scene of a singular series of circumstances on Saturday, Just after the down traiu had left the Halcombe railway station for Feilding, a young lady passenger, who was looking out of one of the windows, had the mislortune to drop her hat, and became so much excited at the prospect of losing it, that, on going on to the platform, she either jumped or fell from tho train. The ai tention of the guard was drawn as quickly as possible to the occurrence, and the train was promptly hacked with the object of picking up the young lady. She was not to bo found at tho scene of tho accident, however, but was ultimately discovered walking back on the road towards Halcombe, and, as she refused to come on board, or tike any notice of reiterated calls, tho train proceeded on its way to Feilding. The next incident occurred at almost precisely the same place, where, as the afternoon train roached the spot, Dunn, the wrestler, jumped out of one of the carriages, On arrival at Feilding the matter was reported to the police, and an officer was despatched to arrest him, but ho was not then to be found and the officer returned to Feilding. He was very much in evidence, however, when tho evening up-train reached the place at which ho had alighted in the morning, for ho stood on tho lineio the way of the advancing train, so as to compel the engine
driver to come to a standstill, when he stood aside and allowed it to proceed. At Greatford, where the trains meet, the driver of the down train was warned to he on the alert, aud, therefore when he folt, after passing Halcombe, that bis engine had run over some soft substance, he came to the conclusion that Dunn had boon run over, Tho train was, therefore, stopped, and run back; but, where the wrestler's mangled remains were looked for, only his wardrobo was found, it being this which the engine had gone over, and Dunn was seen some distance away in a nude state, but scuttled away when pursued, Yesterday a party proceeded from Feildint;, however, and effected bis arrest without difficulty,—Bangitikoi Advocate.
