The attendance was large, and much interest was shown in the match. The wicket was in first-class order, {he visitors ex* pressing their appreciation of it, Blacklook (captain of the Wellington team) won the toss from Wokenholme, and elected to send his men to the wicket. The first wioket fell for thirty-five; Izard's 26 being put together by dashing play. There were only two singles in his score, Afterwards the Hawke's Bay bowling improved, Bruce and Smith proving very destructive, and tlio innings closed for 92. Hawke's Bay started well, and though the bowlers were oonstantly changed, they could not separate Lusk and Wolßtenholihe. The first wicket fell for 35, and the second for 71. After that the wickets foil fast, Frith, after changing ends, knocking the Hawke's Bay wioktts down like ninepins, taking five for 25 runs. Fitzsimons was also in grand form, getting four wickets for! 27. The innings closed for an even Oentoty, Wellington started the second inningß with Izard and Wynyard, and when the stumps' were drawn had lost one wioket (Izaid) for 26 runs. The fielding of botli teams was not up to representative form with one or two exceptions, the most noticeable being Frith for Wellington, and Bruce for the home team.'
