FIRE AT CARTERTON.

Mr Pacts he's Residence Destroyed, Narrow Escape of the l/i/esleyan Church, The fire-bell gave out a vigorous alarm this morning at half-past three o'clock, when it was ascertained that a large bouse next (ho Wosleyan Church was on fire. The Fire Brigade were soon on the apot with their manual fire engine, but the iin had too strong a hold on the building for the men to cope with it, so they directed their attention to saving the Wcsleyun Church, which caught tire several times. The house was owned and occupied by Mr J. Paaske. It was insured in the National Insurance Company (of whicb Mr T. Proctor is the local agent) for £2OO. The furniture was uninsured. Mr Paaske is a heavy loser; as not a stick was saved. He has also lost all his account books and will have to depeud on the honesty of customers.
