FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
0, W. Smart Burned Out

Wellington, Wednesday,
A firo broke out about 10,30 last night on the premises of Mr G. W. Smart, pawnbroker, Manners street. The Fire Brigudo quiokly arrivod on the scene, and found tho place well alight, the flames looking very much lik'j spreading to the adjacent building* in the high wind which was blowing at the time. Bo\vom\ the brigade Boon got to work and with a good supply of water got the fire under in about half an hour from the time of their arrival ou tho sceno. The insurances are :-0u the building, £4OO in the London, Liverpool and Globe, On the stock £8095 distributed as follows:—Economic, £425; North German, £400; South British, £750; Palatine, £400; Pbomix, .£273; London, Liverpool and Globe, £250; National, £95; New Zealand, £SO; London and Lnnonshire, £450. The! loss is. a total one, except a few valuables kept in the safe. Mr Smart's estimate of loss is considerably over tho insurance,
