MR HOGG M.H.R. AT EKETAHUNA.
By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent; Eketahona, Saturday. Mr Hogg, M.H.R., had alarge and attentive audience last night at Elliston'B Hall, fully 100 people being present, Mr A. Anderson taking the j chair. Mr Hogg, in opening his address, desired to thank the settlers foreleotiug him. He. was a wellwisher for the district, and hoped that a dairy factory and creamery would be erected, as he thought it would benefit the district and the settles. He explained the prinoipal clauses of the Land Bill, A few questions were asked with regard to making roads to Special Settlements. Mr Hogg thought that the Government ought not to sell an acre of land, unless they made a road to it, He was'notuji favour of land nationalisation, unless the occupier of the land was made safe for his improvements'. When asked if he thought it right, that in a lease in perpetuity the settler has to pay fifty per cent, mora than tba doferred payment Byatem, he said liocousidered that the Government had put a far too high valuation on the land in tliia district. Mr Aulip moved a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Hogg as their representative, The motion was seconded and carried ' Mr Hogg returned thanks and said the vote they bad just passed would give him great enoonragement in the future, and that if be could possibly help the settlement of the distrlot he would very willingly do all in his power,
