COURT OF APPEAL.

Half Yearly Session. Thii half yearly sittings of the Court of Appeal opened at the Supreme .Court yesterday morning, before their Honors Justices Richmond, Williams, Conolly, and Donniston. His Honor tho Chief Justice has been detained at Napier. After consultation their Honors decided to fix dates for tho hearing of , the casos on the list, but arranged [ that the first case to bo taken should be Land Transfer Act n Wharcaraa blook, MrH. D, Bell for the appeallant, and MrM. Chapman for the respondent. IN BE THE LAND TRANSFER ACT AND RE THE WHAREAMA BLOOK. This case was then commenced, It was an appeal against a decision of His Honor the Obief Justice, upholding a decision of the District Land Bogistrar at Wellingtan, From the affidavits it appeared that in 1862 two Maoris named Iharaira and Tamate received a grant of 1150 acres of laud from the Crown, Tamate died in 1875, and Iharaira in 1886, The successors to the latter then claimod tho title to tho whole of the property, as successors to tho surviving grantee, The successors of Tamate, however, wanted their share, and opposed this. The District Land Registrar decided in their favour on the ground that the original grantees were tenants in common, and ruled that application for the title to the land must be signed If by the succeß&ors to both tho original grantee which ruling His Honor the Chief Jusiico, on being appealed to, upheld, Mr H, D. Bell now appeared in support of a further appeal against the decision, Mr Chapman opposing, The caso is proceeding. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wellington, Friday, In the Appeal Court in the Whareama case judgment has been rosorved, Argument is now being taken in .the case of Piripi te Maari, respecting the execution of the deed granting timber rights over Makio Block to Stewart and Co., of Wellington.
