POLITICAL
In the House of Representatives on Tuesday mornins, on the motion that the Appropriation Bill do pass, Mr G, Hutchison said if he were to ho ensed of insincerity, he preferred to be accused by someone with cleaner hands than the member for Buller. He opposed the presont Government only since their polioy had developed, and had proved to be something altogether opposed to that which they had enumerated when in Opposition. It was now of a most dangerous and revolutionary character, Tho hon. member who acoused him had onca been the centre of all tbo patronage on tho West Coast, Mr O'Connor said he failed to see why the holding of every office which his fellow-citizens could confer on him was a crime. But he would tell the hon. member that at least he had not robbed the widow ot her mite and the orphan of her share, and that his house was not known as the " Rogue's Castle," Ho did not blamo the hon member for changing his Party, but for changing bis principles. Like tho American politician a merciful Providence had fashioned him hollow in order that he might bis principles swallow. He dared not face his constituents, and he would cballonge him to resign his seat and he (Mr O'Conor) would go and contest Waitotara with him. Mr Macintosh had referred to phrenology, Phrenology would show that with tbo member for Waitotara conscientiousness was down to thrco, The Minister for Education said Mr Macintosh had referred to this contest as Satan reproving Sin, Would bo kindly tell the House which was Satan and which Sin ? (Laughter.) -Post,
