SUDDEN DEATH IN MASTERTON.

Mr John O'Brien, teacher at the Masterton Catholic School, died somewhat suddenly this morning, It appears that he went to teach school as usual, being mot at the Presbytery gate by the Eev. Father O'Meura, with whom lie stood talking about tlio change in the weather, for « few seconds. Deceased then said ho felt weak and would like to lie down. Father O'llearatook him by the arm and led him towards tho Presbytery. Mr O'Brien appeared to rally a littlo and wi:s ablo to walk in, and, with the assistance of Father O'Meura, lie down on the sofa. A little whisky was given to him, but as lie did not feel better, Dr Hosking was sent for. Before the Doctor's arrival, however, Mr O'Brien passed aw«y very quietly; the lust rites of the Church being administered by tho Itev. Father O'Mnua. Mr O'Brien has been resident in Masterton since Christinas last. He came herefrom the Palmerstou North district, where ho lived some time, Previous to then he was a teacher in the Victorian State Schools, and at the time of his death wag in receipt of a pension from the Victorian Government-, having been employed in that Colony for ovor twenty jears. Deceased, who vas about 55 years of age, was very generallj esteemed and respected, and under his direction the school has made favourable progress, He leaves a wife and a largo family to niouru their loss, Dr Hosking does not consider an inquest will he at all necessary, as the cause of death was undoubtedly heart disease, for which complaint Mr O'Brien has been under treatment for a number of years.
