LAND BOARD.
The Wellington Land Board met yesterday morning; present Messrs J. H, Baker (Commissioner of Crown Landß), Fitzherbrrt, Fisher and Hogg, M.H.B. The judgment of the Court re MoCardle, jun., V. the Wellington Land Board was read by. the secretary. Mr MoCardle, sen. (whoso term as a member of the Board had expired), was present on behalf of Messrs 0, Jensen, Thompson, etc., who were applicants tothe Board as shown below. Mr Burling attended in response to the demand of the Board. He said, in reply to the Chief Commissioner, that he was not sure that he was asked when ho took up the land, whether he understood the declaration before signing it. The Commissioner said that Mr Luckie (before whom it was signed) had said to bim that he iuvariably made everything clear to a signer. Mr Brown, a clerk in the department, testified that he read over the conditions, and explained them to the applicant. Applicant continued to say that the conditions were not explained, at any rate, he would not swear to it, The Commissioner said the officers had special written instructions to make these explanations, and it was done always as a matter of routine. Another offiocr of the department confirmed this evidence.
The Board decided to give its decision at 8 o'clock,
The returns of applications for purchase and lease of land to 28th Sept. was tabled. It showed that four applicants had taken up 860 a 2r lip, at an aggregate upset price of £B9O, of which £1715s had been paid. Two selections were of village land for cash, one village homestead, one perpetual lease, For the term of April 1 to September 28,11,051 a 2r 8p were taken up at an upset aggregate of £20,72119s lOd. Schedules of titles were submitted to tho Board as follows:—(1). Approved, conditions having been complied with—L. E, Birch, J, T, Marriott, E, Revell, McKenny and Martin, E. Smith, W. Port, 11. Jacob, J. McClenaghan, J. Shafelske, W. J. Paulin.C. M.Floicher, F. H.Cane, D, G, Mouraa,M, E. Port, F. M. Izard, J. Major, J, Falconer and Kruse. (2). Not approved, conditions not having been complied with—A. Sandel, W. F. Douey, J. Vile, S. G, Crosse, A, W,H.Wickes,B,G.Scadden.
Schedules of transfers unapproved were submitted as follows:- J.Nixon and W, Hewson. Transfers approved were granted to S. Pemberton, G. Richardson, sen., H. A. F., and G, L. Sixtus, A. R, Cox, D., and J. W. Davis, 1), Diokio, H, E. Mowbray, T, Pratt, M. Nilsson, A. MoFarlane, O, Dpuey, junr., 0. A, W. Moncton, A, Avery, M, Gurnett, W, A, Port, J, A. Gower. Mr G. Gardner applied to obtain the title to section 6, Blook X, Mangabao. The Chief Banger roported that the improvements were insufficient, and the Board resolved that the title could not fie issued until the improvements were properly effected, "Mr J.'Burbage applied with reference (o the transfer' of oeoiion SJ, Blook Y,' Mangaone, anil it was resolved that if Mr TJimmins' son js eligible', the transfer wpuld be allowed, Messrs J, and T.R.Rueooe respectively applied to transfer to J. F. Euscoo, The applications were refused, and it was resolved to inform applicants that the land will be for* feitrd if the improvements are not effected this season, Mr A, E, Sanders' applio»tion to be allowed to transfer his interest id
tho Coonoor Homestead Association to Mr H. W. Parsons, was approved. Mr H. Pugh's application' for transfer of his intorestin the Pioneer Farm Homestead Association was approved, subject to the statements being verified, Mr 0. W„ Fisher's application for transfer of interest in the same association was approved, Mr Stubbington's application for a transfer (rora himself to Mrs I, Short was left to the Commissioner to enquire into. The schedule of applications to capitalise was approved as follows ;- J. Pinfold, MoKennyand Mai ton, A, and H. Bosher,F. Shaplesko, G, Martin. W. J. Paulin,' T. Close, B. Hard, ing, H. Sedcole, M.E. Port, A. W. H. Wiokes. J. W. Lillbnrn applied to transfer part of section 1, Block IV., Mangahone, to R. Lillburn,' Tlie -Board resolved that it would not oppose a sub-lease, but would not approve a transfer, Mr 0, E, Waldegrave applied to transfer section 22, block XIII, Apiti, to R. Burne, will guarantee to effect tho six years' improvements this season, the transfer, will be allowed, as soon »b tho area now felled, is laid down in grasß, The O.L. Ranger forwarded infor« mation re a number of sections occupied by other than selectors, and it was resolved to call on the selectors to explain why other people were in occupation of tbeir sections, and to ask the persons on the land to explain by what authority they aro there. . The Board approved a special form of declaration drifted for transfers in Special Settlement Associations on deferred payments, Mr H. Petersen applied to convert section 3, Block X, Mangaone, from the perpetual lease to the deferred payment system.—Granted, provided the improvements aro effected in the prescribed time. The Grown Lands Ranger (Mr McKerrow) reported on the state of tho road in the Hastwell Village Settlement, and it was resolved that Government ho recommended that the local body bo given funds by the Government to carry on tho work required. The Crown Lands Ranger (Mr Tone) reported on Mr Dungon's application for compensation in connection with tho overflow work at Mangarainurams, and it was resolved to ask Government whether proceedings were to bo taken in the R.M. Court to obtain payments in arrear. —Press.
