Entertainment at Greytown.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Greytown, Thursday. An entertainment, in aid of the Greytown Arbor Day Funds, was given in the Palace Theatre laßt evening. There was not such a large attendance as might have been expected, owing, no doubt, to the number of other amusoments, which have lately absorbed all the spare cash. The audience presont was a very appreciative one, and encores were the order of the evening, almost every item rendered being recalled, Miss Eva Nation presided at tho piano.and a lengthy programme, consisting of numerous songs (chiefly comic), a cornet solo by Mr J. Maguire, the highly-amusing piece " The German Fifth," by Messrs R, H.and 0. Smith, and the side-splitting farce, " Put up Your Thumb," by Messrs Pi. H, Smith, J, Dockery, A. and J, Maguire, and 0, Le Roy, was rendered in a very satisfactory manner, showing that a great deal of time and trouble had been spent in preparing the evening's amusement. The stepdancing and acrobatic- feats were also particularly well received.
Special praise is due to Messrs Smith Bros., who, although almost perfect strangers to Greytown, so kindly offered to provide a means of securing funds for a local but deserving object, . A danco was held at the conclusion of the entertainment, to which a good number of followers of the Terpsichorcan art stayed. One thing greatly marred the evening's enjoyment, and that was tho behaviour of a few men and boys who wont with the deliberate object of disturbing tho performers. Although unsuccessful in this, the noise made was simplydisgraceful, andso annoyed ladies who wero present that Bomo of thorn left tbo hall before half the programme bad been gone through.
