BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The regular fortnightly meeting of the Mastertoii Borough Council was beld last night in the Borough Chambers, there being present Councillors Heron (in the chair), Perry, Feist, Cullen, Dixon, Mutrie, E, E. Chamberlain and JJessey, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
CORRESPONDENCE was received from Mr C. F. Gawith, applying to have his name added to the Burgess Roll as a ratepayer on certain property in Wrigley-street— Grantee). From the Now Zealand Municipal Association, enclosing report of proceedings in July last—Received. From Mrs H, Ward, requesting that her name be placed on the Borough roll—Bequest From Messrs Chadwick k Co., of Wellington, offering to provide estimates for lighting Masterton by electricity.—Eesolvod to inform Messrs Chadwick k Co thnt estimates were not required by the Council at the present time. From Cr T. E. ChambeHain, tendering his resignation as a member for the Outer Ward.
From Mr E, E, Chamberlain, requesting (hat his name be placed on the Burgess roll—Bequest granted.
BEPOKTB. Inspector Ingram reported having visited Mr W, Perry's premises in Church street,. in reference to the nuisance complained of by Mr D. Picketing. He discovered the causo to be a pool of stagnant water, under the floor. -The necessary measures were therefore taken and the nuisance was now abated, Tho report of the Borough overseer was received, and the recommendations of the Works' Committee were adopted, OnDINARV. Accounts, as recommended by the Finance Committee, were passed for payment, The clerk informed the meeting that Mr S. E, Gapper had requested him to state, that when a member of tho Council he had been appointed to look; after tho. alterations to - the Library; Buildings. He wished the matter mentioned so that, if the Council thought it necessary, como'one else might be appointed in his place.
The Chairman considered it was unnecessary as they employed an architect to look after the work. Or Cullen said he had been asked by Mr Lowes to request the Council
to put down a few loads of gravel in Villa-street, The Qhairman said proper applioas lion wouldhave to be made. No other business coming forward, the meeting adjourned.
