Hawera, September 16. The Egmont Farmers' Union, Limited, report as under : We held our fortnightly stock sale at Stratford on Friday, the 9th inst. We had a good many more than our advertised number of cattle, the bulk of which were springers and in-calf heifers. Bidding was brisk, so that nearly every line changed hands before leaving the yards. We quote 18montiis to 2~jear ateers, £2lla to £8 lis; springers £i 5s to £6 12s Gd; heifers m calf £3 Os 6d to £4 2a Gd. On Monday, the 12th inst., we held a clearing sale on behalf of Mr J. Walker, Duthio Road, The dairy cows were of a very fair quality, and caused keen competition amongst buyers J so that all sold readily, and the best of them realised over £7 each. Other lines of slook sold rqually well, but those cattle belonging to outside vendors were mostly passed in. We quote 2-year steers, £8 7a to £3los; dairy cows, £4 16s to £7l7s 6d; heifers, £3 to £4 ss; calves lis to 14s; and hacks, £5 2s fid to £8 6s. ■
At Mannia, on Wednesday, the 14lh inst,, the yards were "mostly well filled with both cattle and sheep of good quality. Fair money was offered for most lines, but in many instances vondorfj placed higher reserves on their stock than would-be purchasers were prepared to go to, though notwithstanding this a good deal of the stock changed hands before leaving the yards. We quote fat bullocks £6 5s to £6 8s; forward bullocks, £4lss to £5; 2to 2|-year steers, £3 5s to £4 2s; 12 to 18 month steers, £2 Gs Gd to £2 lis; fat cows, £4 7s Gd to £sl7s 6d; springers, £3 5s to £6; D. Mitchell's dairy cows, springing, £sl7a Gd to £7l7a Gd; cows inoalf, £8 7s 6d to £5 7s Gd; sheep, fat wethers, 14s; hoggets, lis 8a to 19s lOd. , ~ ..
