With the fishing season now commencing, we might augeeat to onr anglers that they should institute tome fishing competitions, carried out on the lines of those held in other parts of the Colony. It no other object was achieved guaranteed records would be obtained, and the purveyors of "fishermen's yarns," who are always so brisk in Masterton, would be at loast kept within aomo conoeivable limit. The custom, we beliove, is to allot to each competitor, a cortain Btretch of river bank, and tflfit all who are ongaged in the trial, fish For allied number of houra undor proper supervision, weigbing-up taking place at the finish, and prizes being awarded in accordauce with the roault obtained.
