CORRESPONDENCE.

The Masterton Orchestra in Justification.

[TO THE EDITOR, WAIRARAPA DAItT TIJIEB.] Sir:—ln reply to a letter appearing in jour issue of Saturday last purporting to hare been written by, and signed "Member.Masterton Orchestra'' I beg to state on behalf of that Orchestra that the letter was not written by any membor thereof, I also wi3b to correct tbe following statements appearing therein:—l. The Masterton Orchestra was nol formed about eighteen months ago, 2, —Messrs Keisenberg and J, Bontley are not Conductor and Secretary of the Orchestra. 3.—The "newly-formed" orchestra has not usurped the title of any original oroheetra, UhviDg corrected the above, I also wnjfto state for your correspondent's information :—That the Masterton Orchestra has been in existence about four months, and the Conductor and Secretary are Mr Winchester and myseli respectively. That it requires more than a Conductor and Secretary to establish, an orchestra and these requirements are fulfilled by tbe Masterton Orchestra. The word orchestra does not imply a quintette, TJiat the members are perfectly free to chose their own name, and do not require suggestions from outsiders whether "alivo," "kicking," or otherwise. That tbe Masterton Orchestra have never paraded their abilities before the 1 public and therefore have not called for comments, and the public being the judge, we thank your correspondent for having referred to ub as the "Superior*' Orchestra, and also for having so generously advertised the Concert. I am, etc., E.H.EION, Hon, Sec, Maßterton Orchestra, Jfoterton, L2th September*
