Lowes and lorns' Stock Sale | Report.

Wo had a good entry of all classes of stock yesterday and buyors were numerous, thus ensuring brisk competition throughout, Lato rates wero firmly maintained with more animation than has characterised the sales for some months past, which may perhaps be accounted for to some extent by tlw appearance of spring and the consequent evidences of abundant feud. Beef was in fair supply, qu«lity not first class, mutton was scarce with good demand, storo cattle sold well, and the same may bo said of sheep, prices of the latter ruling higher and topping the market for the season. Beef realised 18s to 20s for lOOlbs for cows and bullocks respectively. In dairy cows, tho quality being 'inferior, the prices suffered a slight decline, other kinds of Cattle fully maintaining lute, rates, with a hardening tendency; I'at wothers, light and inferior quality, brought 16s Gd; store wethers from 12s 8d to 13s Od; ewes and lambs 18s to 15s 9d ; hoggets from Gs Gd for inferior to 12s lid for a nice line of 500 which bore evidence of having been well wintored. Merino store wethers Gs Gd. The demand for pigs is still weak, Tho entry of horses was unusually good, comprising two draught' entires from Canterbury and Otago with a few choice mares introduced by Mr Gawn, the celebrated draught horse breeder from the East Taieri. For the latter there was good competition, prices ranging from 41 to 50 guineas and a 10 months old filly out of" Luoy," a mare by " Prince," realised 28J guineas, MrVV. Booth, of Carterton, being the purchaser, Mr Falloon, of Wangaehu, secured the dam for ■ A'GO which by many was considered a bargain, A three-year-old filly by " Lord Salisbury" falling to the bid of Mr Buick, of Opaki, at 41 guineas, was considered tho bargain of tho sale. Hacks and light harness horses were not in domand, a few sold at from £6 16«t0L21.
