A SUCCESSFUL DANCE.

(Eijalady Comspiident}

On Friday night, 26ih August, Mrs 0, F. Vallance gave a moat enjoyable dance in the Drill Hall, Masterton, when all the youth and beauty of the Wairarapa was gathered together. The Hall was most tastefully decorated with ferns and evergreens, and the stage made a splendid drawingroom for those who did not oare for dancing, while for tho younger people there were all sorts of retreats and corners to wile away the time between the dances.

The music, under the direction of Mr C. Clifford, was.ns usual, excellent, and the floor was perfect. But the feature of the evening waR the introduction of the Cotillon, led by Miss Anderson, whose graceful dancing was much admired. It is a very pretty dance, and now it has got a start, we hope to see it become as popular in the Wairarapa as it is in some of the more Northern districts. The ladies' gowns were charming, and as to picking out the belle, it would be next to impossible. Everyone looked happy and everyone looked well,

Dancing was kept up with great spirit until far into the small hours ol the morning, when in sheer desperation Mr Vallance was obliged to put the lights out.
