BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The monthly meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday morning, and was attended by Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman), J. Young, W. 0. Buchanan, G. Beetham, F, H, Fraser, W. W. McOardle, Rev. J. Paterson, and Dr Newman, M.H.11, Payments amounting to £8229 19s 9d wera agreed to. The resignations of Miss Annie Wrigley (Mang,tlainoko) and Miss FrancisTaylor (Petone) were accepted. The salary of Mrs Nelson, teacher at Newman, was increased from £75 to £9O per annum.
It was resolved to invite tenders for fencing the Kaitawa School ground, and also call upon the owners of the adjoining sections to pay their proportions of the cost. It was resolved to bear the cost of removing a partition in the premises at Manricaville East rented by the Board for the purposes of a aobool.
Tim Board decided to call for tenders for erecting fencing and shelter sheds at Makakahi.
Permission was granted to Miss Wilkinson, teacher at Hastwell, to erect a residence on (be school ground, the building to bo removed when she leaves.
The question of erecting an additional school at (Jartertoa was deferred in order that a report might he obtained from the carpenter. The carpenter was instructed to see to the re-painting and repairing of the school at Belvedere.
It was decided to obtain a report as to the cost of levelling the school ground at Greytown. It was resolved to instruct tho carpenter to erect a verandah to the teacher's residence at Dalefield. The sum of £lO was voted towards the cost of shifting the Levin school to higher ground. The carpenter was instructed to effect repairs to the residence at Tenui and the schoolhouse at Gladstone.
MrTurkington,thenewly-appointed teacher at Cross' Creek, asked that tbe residence should bo enlarged. The Board decided to inform him that tbe request could not be granted. s A number of applications for the positions of assistant at Mangatninoko and Shannon, were opened and the Board decided to recommend each Committee to appoint a certain applicant.
