MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Fortnightly Meeting,

The fortnightly meoting of the Masterton Borough Council was held Inst (Tuesday) evening, there being present Crs Heron (in the chair) E, Chamberlain, Feist, Gapper, Mutrie, T. Chamberlain, Dixon and Hessey. MINUTES, The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Miss E. L. Watson, requesting the Council to olear the gorse from the road in front of her properly. From Mr Adams, agreeing to keep the fence in repair on the Waipoua river for the sum of £1 per year, From the Town Lands Trustees, declining to contribute towards making the footpath in Bruce street, as they had given the land for that street. From Mr and Mrs Homblow, asking that their names be inserted on the roll for property in Dixon's estate, From the Foundkeeper, stating that the returns for the month amounted to £lßs, RESOLVED. That Miss Watson's application regarding gorse be referred to the Works Committee. That no action be taken id the matter of Bruce street. COMMITTEE REPORTS, The reports of the meetings of the Works and Finance Committees were read and adopted, and accounts as recommended passed for payment, MUNICIPAL PIKE BRIGADE, • Tbo usual half yearly grant of £l2 10s was made to the Municipal Fire Brigade. PERSr STREET, Or Dixon called attention to the condition of Perry street, by Mr Woodroofo's, which he stated was in a disgraceful state, He moved that the matter be referred to the Works Committee with power to act.

Or Gapper seconded, pro forma, but questioned whether the road bad been vested in the Council,

The Clerk stated that only a snial portion of the road had been handei over,

Cr Gapper: Then theCounoil hai no jurisdiction. No action was taken in the matter PRIVATE STREETS, Tho notice of motion given by the Mayor with reference to private streets was ordered to stand over till next meeting.
