A meoliug of creditors in the estate of Edward Pelhaai Brenton, of Pahiatua, storekeeper, was to have been hold iD the"old Courthouse, Master* ton, yesterday (Monday) afternoon. There were, however, no creditors present. The debtor was represented by Mr Tosswill, and handed in a writton
statement, accounting for his position, In the courso of examination by the Assignee he said he started in business on January Ist, 1891, with a capjtffofXSO. His first bill was met by Mr Buddiolt and bo backed the others himself. He did very well at tbe start, but lately prices had been cut down and he lost money in having to renew bills. He could not get his money iu, and bis book debts were heavy, He first found his position to bo bad after receiving one or two summonses, and lie went to Wangauui to soe his largest creditors, They sent their traveller to take stock and be then found that he could not pay twenty in the pound, He made un offer to his croditors ol
ten shillings in the pound on bills at " three and six mouths, bucked by Mr Kuddick, of Hastings. About tlireecjuorterß of the creditors accepted, but the rest declined, and after receiving two or llireo summonses the bailiff was put in possession, He then filed. Mr Dahlj of Palmeraton, supplied him wiili goods a month More he liled, but it was alter that Harbrick Ss Co.'s traveller took slock. Before stock was taken he took a bailment D. Crewe over his horse, IrapPharness and cow. Mr Crowe handed him £22105, trom which sum lie paid various creditors.
