A CHILD'S CLOTHES TAKE FIRE.
Fatal Injuries.
Eaymond Cecil, tho five-year-oldson of Mr Richard Hatch, of Masterton, died this (Monday) inomir&rom injuries sustained through his olothes taking firo. It appears that botween seven and eight o'olook on Sunday morning Mr Hatch got up and lit the fire. Ho went outside shortly afterwards to get some wood, leaving tho child sitting in his nightdress by the fire-place.' Ho had been absent only a '• few moments wheu he heard soreams, | and on rushing in he found the boy \ enveloped in flames, ; The poor lad was running franti- ; cally about the house, and by the time his father procured a blanket and smothered the flames, his night dress was nearly burnt from his baok. Dr Hosting was sent for at once, and did all in his power to alleviate tho sufferings of the little one, but the shock to his system was so great that he expired at an early hour this morning, His hands and legs were frighti fully burnt, and his face was beyond recognition. It is not known how the gown of tho child took fire, The funeral is announced to take place at i p.m. on Wedne&Ay.
