THE VOLUNTEERS.
Visit ofOommandant Fox.
The Masterton Eifle Volunteers paraded in the Drill Hall last (Tuesday) evening for inspection by Colonol Fox, Commandant of New Zealand Forces. About forty, rank and 6le, were on parade, Captain Powdbll boing in command. The men were put through manual and company drill
and bayonet exercise by commisuioned and non-commissioned officers, who wero instructed byLiout-Colonel Newall. At the close of the parade Colonel Fox addressed tne company. He said ho was very pleased the way in which the corps had acquitted itself, although there were one or two men who were foolish, The noncommissioned officers were not what
he had expected to Ree, and he hoped there would be an improvement in before he next visited Masterton, Considering Lieut, Malcolm had just passed his examination he had acquitted himself very creditably. The men were alterwards addressed by Captain Pownall, who stated that jie iptended' rigorpiisly enforcing the fines for non-attendance. The corps have to improve or be disbanded.
