SKATING CARNIVAL.

The skating carnival held in the llasterton Theatre Royal last (Friday) evening was highly succpssful. There was ajarge attendee of tho public, the gallery and Stage being crowded, and the floor ocoupied by about fifty skatists. The costumes of some of the lattor wero very handsome indeed, and reflected great credit upon the wearers. The proceedings were enlivened with musical renditions by Pearson's Brass Band. The prize for the most original costume was awarded to Miss N. Williams, who waa attired in a handsome blue dress and represented" The Morning Star." lhe judges did not consider the costumes of the gentlemen original, although some of them were very active. The character best sustained was that of the "Blind Fiddler,'' Miss Violet Smitbson carried off the prize for tbe best dressed girl with a representation of the "Tambourine Girl," whilst Master W, Jago, as 'Prince Charlie," was awarded first priie for the best-dressed boy. The judges expressed tbe opinion that the beßt boy. skater on the floor was Master Jackson, "The Irish Gentleman," Mrs F. O'Connor, "Queen of Diamonds," took the prize for the best lady skater. Several races took place during the evening. Mr Cerk, the lessee of the Thoatro, is to be pongratulated upon the success of the gathering, which was the first pf its kind held for several years. The prizes, which were pretty and tasteful, were presented this morning to the successful competitors.
