A meeting of Wairarapa horseowners held in Masterton on Saturday last resolved to approach the Railway Commissioners with a view to obtaining a reduction in the charges for conveying etallions and brood mares between Masterton and Wellington, At present the charges are, it is stated, exorbitant, and prohibit owners from travelling their horses, or receiving mares from outside the district, The Commissioners have at present a large number of horse boxes lying idle, and a concession would, it is contended, result in a large increase in traffic, It is pointed out that at Home the following arrangements are in force for the carriage of brood mareß and etallionß: Prood mareß or stallions travelling for brg&djng purposes during any time within three pontbjpf April, May, June, and July. i,e„ completing the outward and homeward journey within three months, are charged for their conveyance outward and homeward ten per cent, more than single horse rate, whether requiring the exclusive use pf a box or not. This reduced charge je rnafje only under the condition that before comtoßiipJDg the outward journey apdl previous to commencing the return journey, a mtificate shall be given to the companies
