' . Unionist Press Hopeful. Attacks on Mr Gladstone. [united press association.] London, July 7. The Freeman's Journal states that Australia and America have each forwarded £SOO to the M'Carthy Party. The Times, commenting on the election of Mr Dadabhai Naoroji, a naturalised Parsee, for Finsbury, says it is an experiment that has created great interest, and will be watched with attention. The Daily Chronicle, says the Liberals have failed wherever they neglected the Labour interest, but the Radical triumph in London is complete, : The Unionist Press now takes a less favorable view of the possible result of the elections, Mr Gladstone is being severely heckled by his opponents in course of the election campaign, and is reported to be greatly irritated at the persistent attacks levelled against him. He is also suffering from a cold. Tho returns so far give—Conserva« tivo, 124; Unionist, 19; Liberals, 91; Labour members, 8; Nationalists, 4, The net gain of the Gladstone ?arty yesterday was seven. Messrs Maurice Healyand William O'Brien have been elected for Cork City by great majorities over Messrs John .Redmond and Hogan, Parnellites. Mr Hugh Watt, the former member for the Camlaehie Division of Glasgow, only obtained 179 votes, TheUnioaist inajoritiesat Birmingham for the seven members exceed 24,000. Kilkenny city has returned Mr j, Curran, who defeated Mr J, O'Connor. For Waterford Messrs W, Redmond and t). Sheehy were returned unopposed, An address signed by the Bev, Newman Hall and numerous influential Nonconformist ministers of Great Britain, assures Ulster of their sympathy and assistance, , The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has' passed a motion condemning Home Kule.
At Newark (North East), Notts, Mr O'Brien was elected! At Newcastle-on-Tyne, which returns two members, Mr Hammond, a Tory,' was at the head of ths poll with 13,828, the Eight Hon. J. Morley coming next with 10,905, and Mr J. Craig receiving 10,686. _ Messrs Morley and Craig, both Liberals, were tbe old members. At Morthyr-tydvil, Messrs D. A, Thomas and Fritcliard Morgan, Liberals, were_ elected, the constituency ha?ing also returned Liberals to thelast Parliament.
